The Bereavement Service at Carers Leeds provides bereavement support for carers when the person they have been caring for has died. They understand that this can be a challenging and difficult time, not only dealing with the practicalities following your loss but also adjusting to a very different life without the person you have been caring for. You may be left with feelings of sadness, isolation, helplessness, guilt, relief to name just a few.

One-to-one bereavement support

They can offer one-to-one bereavement support which would involve speaking on a regular basis (either weekly or fortnightly) with a qualified and experienced Bereavement Support Worker. The number of sessions is time limited (usually up to 6 one hour sessions), and will be agreed in discussion with your Bereavement Support Worker. This time will give you the opportunity to talk through, in a safe and non-judgmental space, the thoughts and feelings you are experiencing.

Bereavement Support Groups

They also run monthly Bereavement Support Groups which you may be interested in joining.

• Support After Loss Group for bereaved carers, on the fourth Wednesday of the month 10.30am-12.00. This is currently on zoom but there will also be an opportunity to meet face to face as restrictions are lifted. This group enables you to talk about your thoughts and feelings following the death of the person you cared for with other bereaved carers who are in a similar situation.

• MHA Communities South Leeds Bereavement Support Group

Everyone experiences grief in a different way and there is no right or wrong way to grieve.
