We are thrilled to have Ted Bowman back in Leeds for the third time. This year he will be speaking about Thresholds, Grief and Bereavement Care. Ted Bowman is a grief and family educator based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA. For over 40 years he has been teaching, leading workshops, writing and providing consultation about disruptive changes and their resulting loss and grief. He is an adjunct instructor in the School of Social Work for the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, teaching courses on grief counselling and therapy. For the past 20 years, he has travelled annually to England, Scotland and Ireland for work with hospice, mental health, and grief and bereavement care settings.

Thresholds, Grief and Bereavement Care

Grief and bereavement care often include a re-working of one’s story. Spouses become widowers; a parent dies before a child is ready; life after loss is transformed to life living with loss; and there and then morphs into a new here and now. Stories change as thresholds are crossed.

In this brief talk, perspectives and tools useful to children or adults who cross thresholds will be presented. Re-storying or re-authoring one’s stories are steps toward healing and living with losses. Ways to hold onto the past and take hold even of an uncertain future will be emphasised.

Pathway for children and young people in Leeds who have been bereaved

Our AGM will also be an opportunity to share the newly updated Leeds City Council Pathway for children and young people in Leeds who have been bereaved. Originally published in 2017 it has been updated to reflect the increase in provision in Leeds for bereaved children and families. The Pathway is aimed at practitioners within universal settings such as schools, Children’s Centres, voluntary sector agencies or GP practices.
