Eulogy Exhibition

**Please note that this exhibition has now been extended to 22 September**

  • Exhibition Dates: 2 August – 22 September 2019
  • Venue: Room 700, Leeds Central Library, Municipal Buildings, Calverley Street, Leeds LS1 3AB

A poignant and uplifting tribute to the lives, journeys and stories of Jamaicans no longer with us who settled in Leeds during the 1940s-60s.

Traditionally their funeral programmes, eulogies and photos capturing the hopes and dreams of younger days, tell a singular life story. Bringing them together for Eulogy tells the story of a generation.

Curated by Susan Pitter, the Eulogy Exhibition will explore journeys from the Jamaica they left behind, the welcome in a cold Motherland, their ordinary and extraordinary contributions to Leeds. Family keepsakes and gorgeous images from days gone by sitting alongside Paul Floyd Blake’s contemporary portraits of their descendants capture the legacy of a pioneering generation. Visit the Jamaica Society Leeds website for more information about their work.

The Eulogy Exhibition is a part of the Eulogy Project made possible by support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Leeds Inspired and Windrush 2019.
