Basic Bereavement Skills Training

Our Basic Bereavement Skills training is available to a wide range of groups and individuals working with the bereaved in general settings such as health and social care, housing support, law firms,  adult care, volunteer bereavement workers, faith and community groups.

The three hour session introduces some of the basic theories about the grieving process and develops skills and awareness in a small group through exercises and discussion.

At the end of the session participants should:

  • Have a greater awareness and understanding of the grieving process.
  • Feel more confident in addressing bereavement issues with the people they work with.
  • Feel more confident in recognising what is part of the ‘normal’ grieving process and recognising when people need more specialised support.

Other Training Courses

We offer Basic Bereavement Skills for those who work with children and young people  (there is a charge for this course – please enquire) and, in partnership with Dying Matters Leeds, we offer a one day training course “How to have sensitive conversations around death, dying and bereavement.” This session is to help staff and volunteers, who work with people approaching end of life in Leeds to improve their confidence and communication skills around death, dying and loss.
